Before & After
We all have the same goal of having ideal oral health for our entire lives. While that would be wonderful, it isn’t entirely realistic for everyone. Thankfully, we have a number of dental treatments available to help our patients with any issues they may experience. While it is critical to schedule your treatment appointments on time, it is also critical to follow any before treatment and aftercare instructions for your treatment and recovery. Failure to do so negatively impacts the success of treatment as well as your recovery time. Read on to learn more.
Reasons It Is Important to Follow Before and After-Treatment Directions
There are many situations when you are given directions. You have to follow directions if you are heading to an unknown place. Directions are necessary if you are building a toy or piece of furniture for your home. The list could go on and on. Following directions from our office is also extremely important.
No matter the type of treatment you receive, whether it is minor or major, it is important to follow our before and after-treatment directions. Some patients need to take antibiotic medication to receive dental care, while others may need to adjust to long-term medication. Failure to do this can prevent us from performing the treatment.
When after-treatment directions aren’t followed properly, patients may experience complications and require a repeat of the same treatment or additional procedures. This can lead to unnecessary discomfort as well as added expenses.
Don’t Eat While Numb
It may be tempting to try and eat when the effects of the numbing agent are still wearing off. However, this is a bad idea. Eating while numb can lead to injury in the mouth. It is easy to bite your tongue, cheeks and lips, leading to additional problems, such as canker sores. It is also wise to eat on the opposite side of the treatment site until you are fully healed, unless we provide other instructions.
