Please Ask Questions During Your Appointment!
We know dental appointments can sometimes come with a lot of information. You may hear a new term, see something on an X-ray, or get a recommendation you were not expecting. In those moments, we never want you to feel like you should simply nod along and figure it out later. Continue reading to learn more.
There Really Are No Silly Questions
Ask us questions. As many as you need to ask to feel comfortable. We want you to understand what is happening with your oral health and feel comfortable with every decision you make. We’re committed to this approach. We want to emphasize clear communication, thoughtful care, and making sure you feel at ease throughout your appointment.
If something does not make sense, please say so. You can ask us what we are seeing, why something matters, what your options are, or what might happen if you decide to wait. You can even ask us to explain something again in a different way.
We do this every day, so dental terminology feels familiar to us. We know it may not feel familiar to you. We would much rather slow down and make sure everything is clear than have you leave the office still wondering what we meant.
Understanding Helps You Make Better Decisions
One of the biggest reasons questions matter is that your care belongs to you. We can examine your teeth and gums, take X-rays when needed, and explain what we find. We use thorough exams and modern imaging to understand your dental condition and make appropriate recommendations. But the next step should still be a conversation.
When you understand why we are recommending something, it becomes easier to decide what feels right for you. You are not simply agreeing to a procedure. You’re making an informed choice about your own health.
Tell Us What Matters to You
Questions do not have to be limited to, “What is this?” or, “Do I really need it?” Tell us what you are thinking. Maybe you are worried about discomfort. Maybe you want to know how treatment will fit into your schedule. Perhaps you are deciding between different options or wondering whether something can safely be monitored for a while. Those details help us understand your priorities.
Our approach is centered on listening first, understanding your goals, and creating personalized care. The more open the conversation is, the better we can work together.
Asking Questions Can Make Appointments Feel Easier
Sometimes uncertainty is more stressful than the actual dental treatment. Knowing what is going to happen, why we are doing it, and what you can expect afterward can take away a lot of that worry.
This is especially important if you ever feel nervous about dental care. Our philosophy is to slow things down, explain what we are doing and why, and make sure you feel comfortable before moving forward. You never have to pretend you’re comfortable when you are not. Tell us. We want to know.
You Don’t Have to Remember Everything
We also know it can be hard to think of questions while you are sitting in the chair. If something occurs to you before your appointment, write it down or put it in your phone. Bring the list with you. And if you think of something after you leave, call us. You are not bothering us. Helping you understand your oral health is part of taking care of you.
We Want You to Feel Confident About Your Care
At the end of the day, we do not want dental care to feel like something that simply happens to you. We want you involved.
We will bring our experience, training, and clinical information to the conversation. You bring your questions, concerns, goals, and knowledge of what feels normal for you. When we put those things together, we can make better decisions as a team.
So, at your next appointment, if a question pops into your head, ask it. Big question, little question, technical question, or something you think you “should already know,” we’re happy to talk about it.
If it’s time for your next appointment, schedule with our office located in Phoenix, AZ. We look forward to seeing you, hearing what is on your mind, and making sure you leave feeling informed and confident about your smile.
