Let’s Celebrate Saving Your Teeth
At Smile Dental Clinics, we believe in trying everything we can to save your teeth. We don’t like to see our patients dealing with extreme discomfort or recurring dental issues. Patients never like to hear that they need dental treatment, and they dread learning that they need a root canal. We are here to tell you that, while the root canal may have a bad reputation, it should be a treatment that is celebrated. It does two important things—eliminate discomfort and save your tooth.
What is a Root Canal?
Many patients fear a root canal without really understanding what the treatment means for their oral health. A root canal is the process of removing infected nerve tissue from the inside of the tooth. When a tooth has a cavity that remains untreated for an extended period of time, it can expand further into the tooth until it infects the nerve of the tooth causing extreme discomfort. Nerve tissue might also need to be removed when a large filling or dental crown is too close to the nerve.
With modern dentistry and the state-of-the-art technology that we use in the office, a root canal has never been easier. Many of our patients are surprised at how easily the treatment is administered and the quick recovery process. We love when patients realize that they will no longer live in discomfort and are able to save their tooth.
Care Following a Root Canal
The care following a root canal is very similar to the care following a filling. The most important thing to remember is not to eat until the mouth is no longer numb. You don’t want to accidentally bite your cheek or tongue. We also suggest to:
- Chew on the opposite side for a few days
- Eat softer foods
- Brush gently
- Take any prescribed medication
If you are experiencing any discomfort, notice swollen gums, have a chipped or cracked tooth, or start feeling extreme sensitivity to hot and cold, please contact our office located in Phoenix, AZ as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. We want to help save your tooth!
